A survey of race relations and civil rights activities from late 19th century to the present. The principal focus, however, is on the period since World War II, especially on the mass-based civil rights movement (1955-1965) and the various policy debates and initiatives of the past thirty years, most notably affirmative action and busing. We also examine critiques of non-violence and integrationism.
