A study of African-American literature designed to expose students to important periods, works, and authors within historical context. Topics will include slavery, reconstruction, the Great Migration, the Harlem Renaissance, and the contemporary renaissance in Black women's literature. Students will be required to read critically, discuss, analyze, and write their responses to the several literary genres that will be incorporated (fiction, drama, poetry).
