Credit 3 hours. Prerequisites: Art 105 or 106 and ENGL 101 or permission of department head. This course presents European art of the seventeenth century by region, beginning with Italy and followed by Flanders, Spain, France, and the Netherlands. In conjunction with stylistic developments of individual artists, issues such as political geography, religious conflict, and changing social structures are addressed. Three hours of lecture a week.
