Credit 3 hours. Prerequisites: SPED 210. This course deals with techniques and strategies for creating classroom environments that support student learning, including: designing, an appropriate physical setting, developing standards for behavior, and building an atmosphere of caring and respect. Humanistic and behavioral approaches to classroom management are investigated. Additionally, the course focuses on maximizing individual differences, management of time and space, use of centers, scheduling, and working with parents, general educators, and paraeducators. Two hours lecture and two hours of laboratory per week. Must be taken concurrently with SPED 440.
