Credit 3 hours. Prerequisite: Junior standing or permission of the Department Head. A detailed study of Europe from the end of the Thirty Years War to the eve of the French Revolution. Three units on the Age of Louis XIV (1648-1715); the Enlightenment and the European State System (1715-48); and Enlightened Absolutism (1748-89). Includes in-depth coverage of the role of women. Lecture, readings, and discussion. Offered every 2 years in the fall semester.
