Credit 3 hours. Prerequisite: Junior standing or permission of the Department Head. A detailed study of the British Isles from the rise of the Second Empire to the present. Three units on the British Empire and World War I (1900-20); Recovery, Depression, and World War II (1920-45); and Postwar Britain (1945-present). Includes in-depth coverage of the role of women and minorities. Lectures, readings, and discussions. Offered every 2 years in the spring semester.
