Four units on the Emergence of Modern America (1877-1917); World Wars and the New Deal (1917-45); the Cold War and Civil Rights (1945- 76); and the New World Order (1976- present). Includes in-depth coverage of the role of women and minorities. Lectures, readings, and seminar-style discussions. Offered every spring semester.
