Credit 3 hours. Prerequisite: Junior standing or permission of the Department Head. A detailed study of medieval Europe from the beginning of the High Middle Ages c.1050 to the fall of Constantinople and the end of the Hundred Years War in 1453. Three units on the European Recovery, the Crusades, and the 12th Century Renaissance; Europe in the 13th Century; and the Crisis of the 14th and Early 15th Centuries. Includes in-depth coverage of the role of women. Lectures, readings, and discussion. Offered every 2 years in the spring semester.
