Credit 3 hours. Prerequisites: Chemistry 261 or 266. A one-semester survey of basic biochemistry covering the structures and functions of amino acids, proteins, enzymes, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids, metabolism, and gene expression. Other topics include acid-base properties, buffers, enzyme kinetics, membrane structure and transport, and hormones. This course may not be used for a major or minor in chemistry.
