Credit 3 hours. Prerequisites: Chemistry 122. A study of the compounds of carbon, including nomenclature, properties, structure, stereochemistry, transformations and reactions of organic compounds; principles of organic reaction mechanisms; and the importance of organic chemistry in real world applications. This course is the first half of a two semester sequence and concentrates on the chemistry of alkanes, alkyl halides, alkenes, alkynes, and alcohols. A course designed for students in biological sciences, chemistry, and pre-professional curricula.
