Lec. 3 Lab. 0 Credit 3 This course will introduce students to the field of gerontology and to the role of society and members of society in addressing aging-related issues. The course will address a number of topics including care of the elderly, living arrangements among older adults, mental health issues in old age, public policy related to aging, the economic and social impact of an aging society, the history of ageism in the United States, and more. Students will also conduct an analysis of the local community with respect to community services, attitudes, and/or practices geared toward older adults and their families.
