Lec. 4 Lab. 0 Credit 4 This first course in principles of accounting introduces the basic terms, concepts, principles and procedures of the double-entry system of accounting. The course is intended for students who will major in accounting or have chosen a career which requires extensive use of accounting information. It proceeds from business transactions of a monetary nature, to books of original entry, through completion of the accounting cycle, to the preparation of financial statements. Attention is then given to more specific problems encountered in a merchandising business with the introduction of special journals for sales and cash receipts, purchases and cash disbursements. The course concludes with coverage of perpetual and periodic inventory systems: accounting for cash, receivables, payables, and systems of control. Prerequisite: Appropriate placement test score.
