Primary emphasis on enlightenment and post-enlightenment transformations in western and eastern Europe, including emancipation, religious reform, Hasidism, and Zionism. Topics include the Holocaust, the rise of major Jewish centers in the United States and the State of Israel, and Sephardic and Middle Eastern Jewish encounters with modernity.
