Description:
Students in this course will examine how beliefs are changed or instilled in audiences as a result of the argumentative or persuasive qualities of messages. The principal mode of message studied is public speaking, but other messages will also be examined critically to determine how those messages function argumentatively and persuasively in a variety of professional situations. The use of argumentation to build public support for specific causes, populations, and public policies will be addressed in particular.
