Prerequisite: ART 1013 Design I, or approval by instructor. An introductory graphic design class that presents the principles of typography, design, and visual communications, much of which relates to advertising or inhouse printing. Students initially are allowed to produce designs, or drawings, using graphic techniques with a various array of media - ink, technical pens, calligraphy pens, markers, watercolor - to be incorporated into computer graphics. This initial phase instills the importance of creative thought for producing outstanding computer graphics. PhotoShop and Illustrator, plus an introduction into Quark, are the professional-grade software used in this class. When feasible, a field trip to an advertising or publishing firm is a scheduled activity outside the normal in-class participation. This course serves as an elective for students completing the Associate of Arts degree. It is also a college transfer course.
