Credits - 9 Lecture - 5 Other -4 Content includes concepts and skills of holistic medical-surgical nursing throughout the life span, including pediatric, adult and geriatric nursing. With faculty guidance, the student will apply and utilize concepts learned in NUR 101 to develop skills needed for effective nursing practice with children, adults and the aged. Special emphasis is placed on the care of the patient experiencing diagnostic procedures and tests, surgical interventions and disturbances in fluid and electrolyte balance. In addition, the care of the patient in shock, experiencing hemorrhage, blood transfusions and transplants are also discussed. The care of the patient and their family will be an integral part of the curriculum for each age group. This course continues to develop and reinforce medication calculations and administration as it applies to the health care setting. Prerequisite: NUR101 and NUR254,
