Credits - 3 Lecture -3 A survey of Anglo-American folk music and its subsequent styles from the first collected folk songs of Cecil Sharp (around 1900) to the present. Beginning with the Appalachian instrumental and vocal traditions, later folkbased styles will be discussed including country music, folk protest, bluegrass, folk rock, and progressive folk. Also to be discussed will be characteristics of the Anglo-American style with musical retentions from British Isles.
