DHG 205 - Dental Hygiene Practice III

The purpose of this course is to further the development of the instrumentation and assessment skills acquired in previous dental hygiene courses through treatment of patients of a more difficult caliber. Integration of didactic and clinical experiences will allow for the introduction and development of pit and fissure sealant placement, ultrasonic scaling, air polishing, periodontal debridement, application of chemotherapeutics, caries counseling, and alginate impressions. Emphasis will be placed on improvement of instrumentation; enhancing proficiency in the development of dental hygiene treatment plans; assessment of medical, dental, and periodontal status of patients; and increasing efficiency with patient treatment. Some clinical time will be spent practicing procedures learned in Dental Hygiene III (DHG 200) on peer patients.
