This course will concentrate on well organized, accurately stated, skillfully worded paragraphs and compositions. Students will learn to recognize and correct their own errors in the following areas: subject and verb agreement, pronoun and antecedent agreement, pronoun reference, sentence structure, punctuation, parallel structure, diction, and possessive case. It is designed for students who felt uncomfortable with high school English courses or who received a score of 17-37 on the Writing Skills section of the COMPASS test (or equivalent ASSET score), or who have been out of school for a number of years and feel a need for a refresher course, or who did not complete one or more years of English with grades of "C" or better before leaving high school. This course may be repeated three times (four total) by students needing additional help.
