This is the first course in Emergency Medical Care as part of the Emergency Medical System (EMS) structure. The course covers basic emergency care and includes care, handling, and assessment of the critically ill and injured person. Emphasis is on development of student skills in recognition of illnesses and injuries and proper procedures of emergency care. The student will also develop skills in the area of communication, record keeping, interpersonal relationships and transportation methods. This course includes 116 hours of classroom instruction plus 10 hours of in-hospital experience.
