This course has two main components: (a) review of grammar fundamentals, and (b) basic steps to establish clear organization, unity and coherence in a composition or essay. Students earn a satisfactory (S) or an unsatisfactory (U) grade. Thus, students are encouraged to develop their writing skills in a pressure-free atmosphere of cooperation, without having to compete for grades. This course may be repeated three times (four total) by students who need additional help. Along with ENG 098, this course provides a solid foundation in grammar and composition for either ENGL 101 or ENG 100. This course is recommended for students who score 16 or below on the Writing Skills section of the COMPASS test (or equivalent ASSET score).
