3 Credits (3 Lecture 0 Lab 0 Shop) 3 Hrs/Wk (3 Hrs. Lecture) *15 wks This course is an introduction to core network fundamentals. It will provide students with the ability to design, install, maintain and troubleshoot computer networks. Students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of a wide variety of network cabling, components and architecture. Identification of the seven-layer OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) model, and how it interacts vertically and horizontally with other networks will also be required. The introduction and appropriate use of network protocols (NetBEUI, TCP/IP, IPX/SPX) and network services will be introduced in this course. Note: Network administration covering Software, Servers, Services, Domains, Workgroups and Users will be covered in CPT 266 Server Administration. Prerequisites: CPT 147 or two years of IT experience and Faculty approval.
