Lecture) *15 wks A broad based introduction course that will teach all the fundamentals of relational database access using structured query language (SQL). The course will cover the way to effectively retrieve and manipulate data in a database to meet an employer's or client's needs. The class will cover the basics of SQL, its strengths and weaknesses. It will focus on presenting implementation- independent SQL coding and use while highlighting several vendor specific implementations. The students will be required to become proficient in managing a small relational database under MS SQL Server, hosted on campus. Taking a handson approach, students will become skilled in designing and using SQL language to retrieve, organize, present, update and delete data. These competencies include a basic understanding of relational database, MS SQL Server and SQL. All learning will be in a lab environment where students will directly apply instructions using individual computers.
