A survey course that presents the historical, philosophical and legal foundations of special education, as well as an overview of the characteristics of individuals with disabilities, the Individual with Disabilities Act (IDEA) and the services that are provided under this act, and the diversity of exceptional populations with implications for service delivery. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course. Prerequisite: Child Development 101, or Psychology 207. 150 minutes per week. 3 credit hours.
