This course is one of the requirements of the "Teacher's Assistant" certificate program. It is designed to provide an introduction to the study of various methods of teaching reading in the elementary school. It will include an evaluation of current trends, aims, and practices, and methods and sequences in teaching reading skill development. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course. Prerequisite: Eligibility for English 101 and Math 121 or Consent of Department Chairperson. 150 minutes per week. 3 credit hours.
