Prerequisite: EET 2413 or EET 2414 This course introduces the student to the optical fiber, its characteristics, manufacturing techniques and fiber optic components. Fiber optic sources and detectors are studied in detail and is supported by experiments. The course also includes the study of fiber optic transmitters, fiber optic receivers, modulation, multiplexing and fiber optic communication system design and trouble analysis. Two lecture and two lab hours per week.
