Description:

Basic calligraphic scripts studied in ART 218 are reviewed and a variety of additional styles studied. Layout and design principles are presented, and students work through the process of designing and completing both broadsides and commercial kinds of work. Students study the lettering techniques and shop practices necessary for actual production of calligraphic and drawn letters on a commercial basis. Work involves problem-solving activities the professional calligrapher is likely to encounter on the job.
