4 CR. (3L/1.5 LBV) PRQ: Admission to the PHT program. Focuses on a general overview of pharmaceutical care in the scheme of health care and the role of the pharmacist and the pharmacy technician in its delivery. Introduces pharmacy practice, standards of practice, certification, pharmacy associations and opportunities available to the pharmacy technician. Includes surveying laws, regulations and standards at the Federal and State level as they govern the practice of pharmacy. Discussion includes legal and ethical responsibilities of the pharmacy technician. Emphasizes pharmacy terminology, symbols and abbreviations. Professionalism and communication skills stressing interactions with patients and health care professionals are discussed.
