3 hours credit (3 hours lecture) Prerequisite: ENG 123 English Composition II with ?C? or better A survey of American literature from its beginnings to about 1865, this course is intended as a partial fulfillment of the requirements of the AAT degree andwill also be accepted as a humanities elective for other degrees at RMCC. Student will read, analyze, and interpret works by representative American writers; communicate significant findings; identify various literary techniques, methods, and ideas; illustrate how literature reflects culture and society; and write an interpretive paper along with several response papers. As it is considered a 3r d year class at some 4-year institutions, students intending to transfer should inquire at their intended institutions as to how each will accept this credit. This course requires at least one paper using a documentation format. (Offered on demand)
