Introduction the applications of basic principles and theories in paleontology (evolution, taxonomic systematics, invertebrate/ vertebrate morphology and relationships) and geology (geologic time, earth history, plate tectonics, sedimentation and stratigraphy). The interrelationships and interactions of the physical world with the biosphere and its impact on the evolutionary development of life on earth will be examined through the use of models, specimens, statistical analysis, etc. in a laboratory setting. Included in the laboratory studies will be examinations and comparisons of both extant and extinct specimens of all important fossil forming taxonomic groups. Prerequisite: LFSC 1123 or concurrent enrollment. Crosslisted with GEOL 1121.
