PSYC 2193 - Psychology of Spirituality

Institution:
Rose State College
Subject:
Description:
This course is an introduction to exploring the psychological depth of spirituality. Attention is given to developing an appreciation of the psychological impact contained in the spiritual journey. The works of the existential writer Martin Baber and the founder of dialogical therapy, Maurice Friedman will be explored. Both writers focus on the importance of the development of one's unique sense of self that contributes to a person's capability of living a more authentic human existence. Both writers believe this can be accomplished only by our reaching out in authentic relationships with others. There is a reciprocal relationship involved where one's authenticity inspires others and we, in turn, are inspired by others who live authentically.
