An overview of various renewable energy technologies and their current applications. Emphasis will be placed on energy consumption, efficiency, and conservation. Quantification of incident solar energy is covered in detail along with the basic physics of energy conversion. Technologies include passive and active solar thermal, photovoltaics, wind turbines, small-scale hydrodynamic generation, fuel cells and hydrogen. Prerequisites: PHYS 111, COSC 116 or 125. Semester offered: Fall.
