A survey course designed to help students evaluate the teaching profession as a career choice. Topics include motives for teaching, the job market, global forces affecting education, history and philosophy of education, ethics, and legal issues, curriculum, social and political forces, governance and finance, teacher effectiveness, and current trends in education. Heavy emphasis is placed on the research base underlying teaching. A grade of C or higher is required of the student in this course for admission to the Professional Education Program. EDUC 2001 must be taken in conjunction with enrollment in EDUC 2003. Prerequisite: Appropriate ACT or equivalent score on alternate test, CO 0133 and CO 0223.
