ANTH 150 examines the processes and stages of human evolution and analyzes humanbiological and cultural variation. Upon successful completion of ANTH 150, the student should be able to: Identify the interactions between the two major fields of anthropology, physical anthropology and cultural anthropology. Explain how archeology contributes to both physical and cultural anthropology. Identify the physical, biological, and cultural factors that influence human evolution. Specify the biological and behavioral differences between humans and other animal species. Trace the evolutionary record from early primates to modern humankind. Identify the biological processes - heredity, variation, and natural selection - involved in human evolution. Differentiate biological and cultural differences and similarities in human populations. Develop a concept of culture that will be useful in analyzing and discussing cross-cultural issues in Hawai'i, the United States, and the world. Identify cross-cultural issues and develop a research paper using literature sources and interviews. Express and discuss research results clearly in writing.
