6 semester hours Prerequisite: Admission to the EMT-Paramedic Program. Corequisite: Approved anatomy and physiology course(s). (Lec 2 hrs, Lab 2 hrs) This course relates pathophysiology and assessment findings to the formulation of field impressions and implementation of treatment plans for specific medical conditions. Content areas include: endocrinology, allergies and anaphylaxis, behavioral/psychiatric conditions, gynecology, obstetrics, neonatology, pediatrics, and geriatrics. Students integrate and reinforce the didactic and skills laboratory components of their education by performing basic and advanced life support assessments and skills on a variety of patient presentations and complaints in the clinical setting. Upon course completion, students will have demonstrated competency in those respective components of the National Standard Curriculum for the EMT-Paramedic and requirements set forth by the Alabama Department of Public Health.
