4 semester hours Prerequisite: MTH 100 and PHY 115 The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the study of mechanics and strength of structures. This will include the study of statics and strength of materials involving the use of algebra and trigonometry without the use of calculus. Upon completion of this course, the student will become familiar with the trigonometry used in statics; understand the concepts of resultant and equilibrium of concurrent and nonconcurrent forces, center of gravity, moment of inertia, and radius of gyration; and understand the relationship between applied and internally induced stresses in various types of structural members.
