3 credits (Fall Semester) This course will explore themes in early childhood; attach-ment, separation, autonomy, accomplishment and failure provide a foundation in which individual developmental needs of children can be assessed by parents and teachers. Early childhood themes will be looked at in the context of the dominant culture child, the bi-cultural child and the child with disabilities. Students will be introduced to the techniques of observing, recording and interpreting the be-havior of children. Students will examine research, theories, issues and stages in a social/political context. Students will learn the importance of parents as children's first and most important teachers.
