The focus of this course is on legal issues affecting health information. It provides exposure to the American legal system, legal terminology, case studies, and statutes with practical application of these principles and concepts to medical records. Confidentiality and access to medical records are also addressed. Other topics examined include birth and death certificates, informed consent, response to subpoenas, admissibility, discoverability, negligence, liability, living wills, and organ donations.
