(3.0 hours) This course focuses on what children should know and be able to do in English Language Arts. It includes research-based instructional strategies, activities and assessments aimed at improving student's reading and writing abilities. Among the areas covered in reading are: phonological and phonemic awareness, decoding, vocabulary, fl uency, and comprehension. Topics include the writing process, types and purposes of writing, and a variety of writing products. An emphasis will be placed on strategies for one-on-one and small group instruction. Prerequisite: EN 1223, EN 1224, or EN 1233
