(3 Credit Hours) This course is designed to provide principles related to philosophy of coaching, risk management, effective teaching program development, psychology of coaching, developing wrestling skills, training, nutrition and sports medicine. This course will also include aspects of kinesiology, anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics as they relate to wrestling. The student will be instructed using instructional videos, lecture, textbook and practical application. Topics covered include: role of the coach, philosophy, risk management, effective teaching, biomechanics of wrestling program development, freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, folkstyle wrestling, collegiate wrestling, psychology of wrestling, relaxation and visualization, whole and part teaching method, periodization, strength training, body composition, nutrition, metabolism, making weight, goal setting and effective practices.
