(3 Credit Hours) Intermediate Academic ESL Reading and Writing is designed to help the intermediate-level non-native speaker improve his or her reading and writing skills in English. The focus will be on grammar, vocabulary, and the cognitive strategies used by good non-native readers and writers. Students will practice word-building and dictionary strategies to expand their vocabulary and intensive reading strategies for comprehending more demanding readings, while reading more extensively at home for pleasure for small group discussions. Writing assignments will gradually become less personal and more objective and analytical. Promotion to the high-intermediate level requires high-intermediate level scores on course grade (C or better) and final exam.
