(3 Credit Hours) This course is designed to help the advanced non-native speaker improve his or her reading and study skills in English. The focus will be on comprehending college-level texts through cognitive strategies in reading and vocabulary development. Study skills such as dictionary use, word building, guessing meaning from context, writing outlines and summaries, speed reading, and textual analysis will aid the student in keeping up with college reading assignments. Students will also choose pleasure reading to read outside of class in order to build reading rate and vocabulary. Prerequisites are Michigan Test score of 70 or above or completion of ESL 132 and ESL 133 with a C or better on both final exams and class grades.
