ESL 138 - Intermediate Academic ESL Grammar

(3 Credit Hours) Intermediate Academic ESL Grammar is designed to help the intermediate non-native speaker improve his or her grammar skills in English. The focus will be on equipping non-native speakers of English with the grammar they will need to be successful in ESL 155 Advanced Grammar, and, ultimately, in English Composition I. Grammar will be taught inductively then practiced with drills and used in communicative exercises involving listening and speaking in small groups. ESL 138 should be taken concurrently with ESL 132 and ESL 133, if possible. Promotion to the high intermediate level requires high-intermediate level scores on two indicators: course grade (C or better) and the final exam (C or better).
