(3 Credit Hours) This course introduces the student to the various classifications in special education. The course will describe the characteristics, behaviors, diagnoses, emotional and social implications, placement possibilities, instructional methods and long-term life (vocational) implications for the following categories: high risk, developmentally delayed, mentally retarded, visually impaired, hearing impaired, orthodontically impaired, severely handicapped, gifted, learning disabled, behavior disordered, speech-language impaired and other health impaired.
