1 CR. This course focuses on the skills and bodywork techniques necessary to perform massage from a client's first trimester through labor and postpartum recovery. Students will learn the anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, labor, and birth in relation to the modalities that can provide relief and support to pregnant clients. Contraindications, complications, and high-risk pregnancies will be reviewed, as well as treating the most common discomforts of pregnancy (i.e. lower back pain, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, etc.). Appropriate draping, practitioner body mechanics, and bolstering techniques will be reviewed. Students must be enrolled in the Massage Therapy & Bodywork program. Prerequisites: Human Anatomy & Physiology I and Swedish Massage.
