4 CR. This course is a study of immunology, serology, blood banking and transfusion medicine principles and procedures. Antigens, antibodies, and the functions of the immune response are examined in detail. The laboratory portion of the course provides the student with the knowledge and skills to perform various serological procedures used in medical diagnosis and to perform those tests and procedures necessary to provide safe, compatible blood and/or blood products for transfusion. Prerequisites: Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II.
