3 CR. Examines the medical insurance industry, the history of medical insurance, and the emergence of managed care, HMOs, and PPOs. The primary focus is the application and processing of the insurance claim (HFCA 1500) using Physician's Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), ICD9CM, and HPCS coding. Worker's Compensation, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Champus, Medicaid and Medicare will be studied in detail.
