This course examines the sociological study of the origins, causes, and control of deviance and deviant behavior. It also considers deviance as a labeling process. Course emphasis is placed on individual and group deviance, resulting from societal norms and values. Some areas to be covered are: drug use, sexual deviance, criminal behavior, marginal deviance, and career deviance. Note: SOC 121 is recommended but not required to enroll in this course. Prerequisite: Language Proficiency
