Prerequisite(s): None. This course will introduce students to basic carpentry in modern framing. Students will become familiar with, and learn the safe use of, various hand tools used in the trade. Topics covered will include elements of wall and roof framing, selection and cutting of wall and roof components, assembly and fastening of components, installation of wall bracing, leveling and straightening elements, roof layout, and roof sheeting. Completion of this course will prepare a student for entry-level employment in the carpentry field. 3 hours lecture, 1 hour laboratory.
