This course is an introduction to the first half of art history. It consists of a study of the art produced from prehistoric times through Gothic period. The course will study the evolution of architecture, sculpture, painting, and the crafts. Patrons, techniques, values, concepts, philosophies, and materials used by artists will be studied. Major movements, themes, artworks, and artists will be studied as well as how the art is a reflection of the society that produced it.
